I hope these questions aren't too basic. I'm fairly new to this and am making my way through the process. I have two items I haven't been able to figure out how to classify.
We have a large number of digital photos in our collection. How should digital photos be classified?
Also, we have a round metal object, that was used to hold 12 rubber stamps. It consists of a round metal base with a pedestal coming up from the base. The top section is circular and has "arms" extending from it where the rubber stamps were inserted. The top section turns like a lazy-susan. Would it be classified under Written Communication T&E- Writing Devices – Stamp,Marking?
Appreciate the help.

Florence:
Nothing basic about the digital image/photos question. Is the digital photo an electronic file type of some sort? Or is it an image that has been printed out?
Printed images would fall under Communication Artifacts/Graphic Documents. I could argue that a digital image/photo would fall in the same section… since the the definition refers to "pictorial works produced through photographic, photomechanical, or printing processes." Though the section has no terms for works taken with new-fangled technology. Others on the committee may have better ideas.
As for the other question, I actually cataloged one of these at a previous job. It is a Holder, Marking Stamp (page 560). It is a tertiary term under Writing Accessories (p. 336)
T&E for Communication — Writing Accessories — Container, Writing Equipment/Holder, Writing Equipment/Holder, Marking Stamp.

I'd make a few recommendations for changes and additions in the submissions area of this site:
Change the definition of "Graphic Documents" to include electronic processes.
Add a primary term under Graphic Documents called "Image, Electronic"
Add a secondary term under "Image, Electronic" called "Image, Digital"
And maybe another secondary term under "Image, Electronic" called "Video, Streaming."
These ideas are inspired by the Art & Architecture Thesaurus.
Florence, if you'd like to do this, that would be great. Then the Nomenclature Committee can review and adopt at a later date. Of course, other ideas are welcome.

Thanks for the help.
In response to Andy, the photos came to us in digital format originally.
Paul, how do I submit the request to the Nomenclature Committee?

To submit suggestions for new terms and changes, go to the Submission tab of this web site. To make the four suggestions listed above, you'll need to submit each one separately. If you need help, let us know here in the advice forum. Thanks.
